The gap between the haves and have-nots is showing, even as CCL play takes its toll
A buddy who works in the league messaged me the other day: "There's an unusual amount of bad teams this year."
I'm not sure I agree. What I've seen isn't a lot of bad teams, but a gap unusual in its size and obviousness between the seven teams I'm certain are good and most of the rest of the league (I say "most" because there's a little cluster of teams from 8 to 10 who look good, but we simply don't have enough data yet that says they are good).
On top of that, it's not like anyone past No. 10 is making an irresistible, compelling case that they're going to join the big boys. Everyone from 11-30 (including Cincy, who have made a compelling case that they've dropped out of the top group) feels like they're in the exact same "who knows what we're getting this week???" bucket.
So anyway: Not outright bad, just relatively bad in comparison to the teams that are undeniably very, very good. That's the story of the season's first month.
