Eight intra-league moves I want to see before the MLS transfer window closes
With less than a week left before the window closes, I've compiled a list of moves MLS teams should be making
There’s less than a week left in MLS’s summer trade/transfer window, which means we’re into the desperate hours. There’s lots of teams out there that have got to get stuff done, and there’s lots of teams out there that have got to earn some cash or GAM to keep things in the black (or at least out of the deep, deep red) for the rest of the year.
This is the juggling that CSOs always have to do. One eye is on the current squad, and its ability to compete in the current season. One eye is always on salary spends, improvement/aging curves and GAM reserves – the things that determine the squad’s ability to compete in the season(s) to come. And both eyes are always on the budget. Making sure you’re operating within the parameters set by ownership is how you don’t become an ex-CSO.
Here’s a bunch of moves that, in my opinion, would check a lot of those boxes for all involved parties, with the added bonus of moving the players in question into a situation where they’d get more playing time or responsibility. I love a good win/win/win transaction.

Darren Yapi loan to Portland
I already mentioned this one in Wednesday's 22 Under 22 Tiers column, but it's such a good fit that it's worth saying again.
Why Portland Does It: They just made a killing developing their U22 No. 9 into a record sale to Rangers. Why not try to do it again with a kid who doesn't fit Colorado's plans, but has already shown quality in this league?
